Rani ni Wow 18th.Dec.2022

Woke up to an awsommmm day but trouble in my perfect world...my lower back was caught with a terrible catch by breakfast time so movement was slow and very painful when using steps... But the majestic sculptured and well preserved figures inside the vaaw or step well were quite the sight to behold...
This step well was buried under tonnes of sand hence was saved from destruction of the invaders.

Info in bold has been copied from Google...

Built by Rani Udayamati
Brief History: The stepwell was built in 1063 by Rani Udayamati of the Chaulukya Dynasty to commemorate her husband, Bhimdev I. A 1304 composition of Jain monk, Merutunga, mentions that Udayamati, the daughter of Naravaraha Khangara, built this stepwell at Patan.

The Rani Ki Vav stepwell is believed to have been buried underground owing to a severe flood in the Saraswati river. It was resurrected after decades of painstaking clearance and restoration by the Archaeological Survey of India from 1958 onwards.

It also said that the water there had curative properties too...

This step well was made by a queen hence the name... Rani ki Vaav and it goes 7 floors deep into the ground.

Blue print no.1 for the construction
and blue print no.2
The first view of this majestic structure
This is also been printed on our currency
The rock pillars are very ornate with these holes may be to grip since it used to be filled with water back then.
very very intricate designs
The famous patola sarees come from Patan and I was informed each saree costs ₹1.5Lakh upwards and take 6 months to complete...in my pic above there are the majore designs of the sarees in the 7 squares and the pic doesnt do them any justice at all.
You can see why it escaped destruction as it was submerged in sand for centuries

The 3 pix below were shared by our guide ... Shows you the state in which the vaav was found.
